Trailer Spindle Replacement

What this service covers

Trailer spindle replacement covers semi-trailers, commercial trailers and other towed equipment where the axle end has been damaged but the remaining axle assembly may still be serviceable. The damaged spindle section is removed, the tube is prepared, and a replacement spindle matched to the axle series and application is aligned and welded into position.

Trailer axles are built in several spindle series and configurations, so accurate measurements are essential. The correct replacement is confirmed after inspection, not before.

Common signs of damage

• Wheel-end failure or a wheel-off event on the trailer
• Overheated hub, smoking wheel end or seized bearings
• A spindle nut or retaining hardware that will not seat correctly
• Repeated oil or grease loss from the same wheel end
• Bearing journals worn undersize or out of round
• Damage from a curb, dock or road obstruction

What technicians inspect

• Spindle series and configuration at the affected axle end
• Journal measurements and seal surface condition
• Axle tube for straightness, cracking and previous repair work
• Brake spider, drum, hub, bearings and seals
• Condition of the opposite wheel end for comparison
